(7)Seven series made since 2014 in soft pastel, oil, papier-mâché and hot enamel on copper. Some began with an idea, like a window, a ritual or a page from an old book of Ukrainian customs. Others began with the material and nothing else.

Sixteen paintings, one phrase from Psalm 90 on each, placed in order so that reading the series reads the psalm from beginning to end.

Where painting from observation gave way to abstraction. Colour and gesture first, with room for accident, scraping and repainting.

Eternal Flames
Hot enamel on copper · 2015 to 2018
Fired enamel doesn't age. At 800 to 900 degrees the glass fuses to the metal, and the colour is fixed for good.
